The PRC is replete with historical and cultural attractions. Since 1985, China has joined the UNESCO Convention on the Preservation of World Cultural Heritage.
For tourists in China, 99 cities of great cultural and historical significance, 750 unique cultural monuments under state protection, as well as 119 landscape places are open. These are famous monasteries, including the legendary Shaolin, ginseng farms in Qinghai Province, the Great Wall of China, numerous archaeological sites in the Gobi and Takla Makan deserts, climbing bases on the eastern slopes of the Himalayas and Karakoram, the picturesque Yunnan-Guizhou Highlands, with many mountains waterfalls and deep caves. These are unique lakes Taihu and Xihu, Taishan, Huangshan, Emeishan, Dunhuang caves – the treasury of ancient Buddhist art, Yun-Gang caves, Huangoshu waterfall, karst caves and “stone forest” in Wansheng county, Ludiyan caves in Guilin. ATTRACTIONS Among the natural attractions of the United States, the Great Canyon of the Colorado River in the Midwest of the country and numerous national parks stand out. One of the most famous is Yellowstone with a valley of geysers and a large number of rare animals.
Cordillera houses numerous national parks and conservation areas open to tourists. Acquaintance with them makes it possible to present all the diversity of nature of the U.S. Mountain West. Sequoia National Park, Lassen Volcanic National Park, Crater Lake National Park, Death Valley, Joshua Tree, White Sands, Petrifide Forest National Park (Stone Forest), Badlands National Park (“bad lands”), Great Smoky Mountains and Shenandoah National Parks, Everglades National Park.
Also known are beaches and places of entertainment in Florida and California, Great Lakes, Niagara Falls. The largest lakes in the country are the Great Lakes (total area – 245.2 thousand square meters), which are the world’s largest accumulation of fresh water: Upper, Michigan, Huron, Erie, Ontario. More than half of the Great Lakes area belongs to the United States, the rest to Canada. Continue reading
